Voter lists manipulated, claim Patiala villagers
Patiala: Allegations of voter list manipulation have surfaced in Punjab as villagers claim that the lists for the upcoming panchayat polls are being altered to favour certain candidates. In Ramgarh village, Kulwinder Kaur and her husband, Gurdeep Singh, who live under the same roof, are now required to vote in separate wards. Kulwinder’s vote has been moved to Ward 1, while Gurdeep’s remains in Ward 2.
Similar discrepancies have been reported by other couples, including Jaspal Kaur and Amrit Singh, as well as by Karamjit Kaur and her son, Rajwinder Singh, all of whom have been assigned to separate wards despite residing together. Shocked to discover these irregularities while reviewing the voter list, the villagers have also noted that some names are missing from the electoral rolls. They suspect that someone tampered with the record to remove opposition’s voters from Ward 2 to help the governing party’s candidate.
At Mallewal village, 133 votes were cut from the list, reportedly, inciting public anger.
Confronted, Nabha’s subdivisional magistrate (SDM), Ismat Vijay Singh, claimed that these voter lists had been prepared before her appointment in the town and that the voters could file correction forms.
