Uttar Pradesh honour killing: According to police, the Muslim girl, who came from an affluent family, and the Dalit man, who used to work as a tractor driver had an inter-faith affair and was was killed by her three brothers.
Lucknow: In an alleged case of honour killing in Uttar Pradesh, three brothers were arrested on Monday for allegedly killing a 19-year-old Dalit youth, who was in a relationship with their sister in a village in Basti district. The body of the youth identified as Ankit Gautam was recovered from a sugarcane field in the village on Saturday morning.
The three arrested have been identified as Irshad, Israr, and Irfan.
According to police, the Muslim girl, who came from an affluent family, and the Dalit man, who used to work as a tractor driver had an inter-faith affair and was was killed by her three brothers, reported TOI.
The girl had allegedly committed suicide after her brothers killed Ankit on Friday night. Later, her family members performed her burial in a huff on Saturday morning, police claimed.
However after police recovered the dead body of Ankit on Saturday, cops also exhumed the girl’s body on Monday for further investigation, reported TOI.
DN Chaudhary, ASP Basti said that the post-mortem of both the bodied was performed while the viscera samples of the girl have been preserved for further examination. “The cause of the girl’s death could not be ascertained while the cause of the boy’s death has been ascertained as throttling,” said Chaudhary.
Based on the complaint of the boy’s mother, Kumari Devi, Irshad, Israr and Irfan have been booked under charges of murder, destruction of evidence, and SC/ST Act, said the ASP.
Chaudhary said that based on the forensic reports and surveillance, they found that on Friday night Ankit got a call from the girl and went to meet her.
However, they were spotted in a compromising position by the accused. Later, they throttled Ankit and dumped his body in a sugarcane field. The girl, who was shocked by the sequence of events, consumed a poisonous substance, a sachet of which was also found in her room, said the ASP as reported by TOI.
When the accused returned home, they found their sister dead and immediately cremated her without giving any information to the police or other relatives.
The accused had earlier also opposed Ankit’s relationship with their sister, the ASP added.
