UP: Dalit youth beaten to death after bike hits elderly man in Deoria

A Dalit youth was beaten to death after his bike hit and injured an elderly man in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria on January 13.

The old man’s leg got fractured in the incident.

After the accident, the man returned home, where he was followed by a mob.

Police said the man was beaten up with sticks. He soon fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital, from where he was referred to Medical College in Gorakhpur.

The man succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital on January 16, police said.

The accused, identified as Gujesar Yadav, Ramhans Yadav, Shailesh Yadav, Sriram Yadav, Ram Pravesh Yadav and Raju Yadav, were earlier booked under Section 307 and SC/ST Act.

However, police said a case against them under Section 302 was filed after the Dalit man died.
