Just a day before the last date of nomination for the by-election on Ghaziabad assembly seat, BJP and SP revealed their cards. BJP has made Metropolitan President Sanjeev Sharma its candidate. SP has once again played the Dalit card and given ticket to Singhraj Jatav. Both the candidates will file nomination on Friday. Parmanand Garg from BSP filed nomination on Thursday.
There were more than 20 contenders for the ticket from BJP. These include former MP, son of former mayor, business leader, entrepreneur and social worker. Among these, there are four-five who claim the ticket in every election. Sanjeev Sharma’s name was also included among the contenders. It is believed that his hold in the organization made the way for the ticket easy. He has been the metropolitan president for two times.
He has experience of handling the responsibility of the organization in the Lok Sabha, Assembly and Municipal Corporation elections. The special thing is that BJP has played the Brahmin card. Atul Garg won from this seat in the 2022 elections. The seat has become vacant after he became an MP. Instead of fielding Vaishya in place of Vaishya, BJP adopted a different strategy.
SP has played the Dalit card for the second consecutive time. Earlier in the 2022 elections, Vishal Verma was fielded. He was in second place. Earlier it was believed that the seat would go to the Congress. SP’s role would be to support in the elections. But, the story changed at the last moment. Congress withdrew from the election fray and SP entered the fray.
There will be a fight between turncoats
The main contest in the by-election will be between turncoats. The candidates of all the three major parties have previously been in some other party. BJP candidate Sanjeev Sharma left SP in 2007 and joined BJP. BSP candidate Parmanand Garg was earlier in SP. He left the party a few days ago and joined BSP. Got the ticket as soon as he joined BSP. SP candidate Singhraj Jatav left BSP in 2022 and rode a bicycle. In two years, SP did not give him any important post but he won the ticket race.
