UP by-election: Dalit vote fragmentation is hollowing out BSP, this party is also harming it along with BJP-SP
Lucknow, UP by-election: BSP, which was reduced to zero seats in UP in the Lok Sabha elections, does not seem to get any relief even in the elections to be held on nine seats in the state.

It is becoming difficult for the Bahujan Samaj Party, which has contested the by-elections on its own, to stop the fragmentation of the Dalit vote bank. Despite all the efforts of the party, the inclination of Dalits is seen towards other parties. After BJP, Congress and SP, now Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) is also trying to harm BSP in the by-election.
Let us tell you that the vote bank of BSP has halved in the last decade. The main reason for this was the BJP, which had made a deep dent in the vote bank of BSP in the 2017 assembly elections. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP benefited from contesting the elections in alliance with SP and its 10 candidates won and became MPs.
After this, BSP decided to contest the elections alone again. In the 2022 assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this decision proved wrong and voters again started looking for options in other parties.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Azad Samaj Party President Chandrashekhar Azad snatched the Nagina seat from BSP. At the same time, the party did not win any seat like in the 2014 elections. The main reason for this is believed to be the disillusionment of Dalit voters with BSP. Now it remains to be seen whether Dalit voters will support BSP, which is constantly opposing the sub-categorization of SC-ST reservation.
