Udupi Police Arrest Eight Bangladeshi Nationals in Illegal Immigration Crackdown
Udupi: In a major operation targeting illegal immigration, the Udupi police have arrested eight Bangladeshi nationals who were found residing in India without valid passports or visas. The individuals had been living in the Hoode area of Udupi district for the past three years, raising concerns about cross-border immigration practices.
The crackdown began after Mohammed Maniq, one of the accused, attempted to board a flight to Dubai from Q Mangaluru airport using a fake passport. His arrest at Bajpe airport in the neighbouring Dakshina Kannada district sparked suspicions among immigration officials, prompting further investigation into his background.
Upon questioning, Maniq revealed that seven other Bangladeshi nationals were also living illegally with him in Hoode village. This critical information led the Udupi police to carry out a raid, which resulted in the detention of the seven individuals by Malpe police on Friday.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered that the detainees were in possession of fraudulent Aadhaar cards. This discovery adds another layer of complexity to the case, raising questions about the methods used to obtain these fake identification documents.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to ascertain how the fraudulent Aadhaar cards were acquired and the manner in which these individuals managed to cross the border from Bangladesh into India.
Ad seven detainees are currently in police custody, and plans are underway to present them before a local court as the investigation progresses. The police are focused on piecing together the details surrounding the illegal immigration network that facilitated their entry into India.
This operation not only highlights the challenges posed by illegal immigration but also underscores the importance of robust immigration controls and the need for cooperation between various law enforcement agencies to tackle such issues effectively.
The arrests of the eight Bangladeshi nationals mark a significant step in addressing illegal immigration in the Udupi district. As investigations continue, the police aim to uncover the broader network that enabled these individuals to reside in India without proper documentation, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its borders.
