Transgender persons to be deployed for traffic management in Hyderabad
NEW DELHI: Transgender people will soon be assisting with traffic control in Hyderabad, Telangana. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to appoint transgender individuals as traffic volunteers in high-traffic areas.
The decision was made during a meeting with officials where Reddy suggested utilizing the services of transgender individuals, similar to home guards, to help prevent traffic violations.
“The services of transgenders should be utilised like home guards at traffic signals to prevent violations,” an official release stated.
Reddy also suggested involving transgender people in “drunk and drive” checks. Officials are currently working on a special dress code and salary structure for the transgender traffic volunteers, which will be similar to that of home guards.
This initiative will be implemented on a trial basis.
