Transgender held in woman’s murder case
Rourkela: Police arrested a transgender on Saturday evening in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman in Sundargarh district. The accused has been charged with criminal conspiracy. The accused has been identified as Dukhabandhu alias Debashish Bagartti (34).
Shamyamayee Behera, a seven-month pregnant woman, was killed on Dec 12. Initially reported as a robbery attempt gone wrong, police investigations revealed that her husband, Deben Kumar Behera (35), had orchestrated the murder due to his alleged affair with another woman. Behera, a panchayat executive officer, and his brother-in-law Satya Narayan Behera (48), an assistant SI with Rourkela police, were arrested on Dec 13. Satya Narayan allegedly helped conceal evidence, police said.
DSP Suchismita Das, who is investigating the case, said Bagartti was arrested based on new evidence suggesting involvement in the conspiracy.TNN
