Transgender Group In Telangana Performs Special Puja For Protection From Flood

During the time of adversity or any disaster, humans resort to prayers for protection and to come out of such calamities unscathed. Just like this, the transgender community in Telangana has been engaged in worship of the gods for the protection of the citizens and to keep the floods at bay. As per reports, the region of Bhadradri Kothagudem district suffers bad losses each year due to heavy unseasonal rains and floods.

The locals of Bhadrachalam town suffer the worst, as it is hit by the flood waters. Devotees visiting the place for the darshan of Sri Sitaramchandra Swamy, also known as the Ayodhya of the South, have to face a lot of difficulties because of the weather. For protection from such circumstances, the transgender group of the area has observed a 24 hour fast, staying awake the whole night for worship. A procession reached the banks of Godavari, carrying auspicious instruments in Bhadrachalam. During the event, Sana Mallick, a transgender guru from the town spoke to Local18 and detailed their worship.

According to them, they did the puja for the betterment and protection of the people. While the locals of the place say that it is a great initiative taken by the transgender group, one that makes the people happy and grateful. According to more reports by Local18, they dressed one of the transgenders as “matangi,” making them wear green cloths and carried milk in a silver utensil and offered it to the Godavri river and worshipped the gods.

Special pujas were also performed by the eunuchs of Bhadradri Kothagudem district for the strength of the Godavari embankment and to protect the people from the floods. The reports add that a proposal to strengthen and increase the Godavari embankment has been in place for years now. It serves as a protection to the people of the town.
