Transgender community in Kolkata celebrates their identity at a pre-pujo event
Recently there was a pre-Durga Puja event, “Embracing Inclusivity: Celebrating 600 Voices, One Heart,” dedicated to honouring the transgender community’s contributions to society. The event brought together 600 members of the transgender community, offering them a platform to celebrate their identity and highlight their significance in our social fabric. The initiative was a recognition of those who are often shunned and ignored.The day’s celebration was marked by heartfelt emotions, joy, and a sense of belonging as the transgender community was celebrated, shared in the festivities. Each attendee was also presented with a saree as a token of love and appreciation, spreading the message that they are valued and have a rightful place in our society.
Speaking on the occasion, Rekha Sharma, Chairperson from the organizing committee said, “The transgender community has always been a part of the very essence of who we are as a society. Their warmth, blessings, and contributions are invaluable, and this event is a small way to show them the respect and love they deserve. We hope to continue spreading smiles and ensuring that they feel the sense of belonging they truly deserve.”
