Three get 20-yr RI for gang-raping Dalit girl, 15
BAREILLY: Ten years after a 15-year-old Dalit girl, who studied at a government school, was confined and gang-raped by four men in Lakhimpur Kheri, the district Pocso court sentenced three of the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The fourth accused was a minor and was convicted by a juvenile court in 2022.
The survivor was washing her feet at a pump near her school on June 4, 2013, when the accused took her to a house and gang-raped her multiple times. She managed to escape two days later.
After reaching home, she informed her father about the incident, and an FIR was registered against four persons under sections 376d (gang rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) of IPC along with relevant sections of Pocso Act and the SC/ST Act.
The girl, a class VIII student at that time, quit school as she couldn’t come out of the trauma from the incident for years, and shifted to a relative’s place. Additional district government counsel (ADGC) Brijesh Pandey told TOI,”This was the first case registered under the stringent Pocso Act in Kheri district.”
