Three alliances of Jat-Dalit in Haryana
It seems that everyone’s eyes are on Dalit votes in Haryana assembly elections. After Jats, Dalits form the second largest population in the state. According to an estimate, about 21 percent of the population is Dalit. The picture that is visible so far is that Congress has managed the Dalit equation.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Dalit voters were seen to be inclined towards it. In the uproar to save the Constitution and reservation, Congress and its allies got Dalit votes across the country. Ever since BJP has started non-Jat politics in Haryana, Congress has managed the equation of Dalits with Jats. According to this equation, Bhupendra Singh Hooda has been made the supreme leader of the party and along with him Dalit leader Chaudhary Udaybhan has been made the state president. Congress is hoping that its equation with Jats, Dalits and Muslims will become 50 percent of the votes.
On the other hand, BJP, under non-Jat politics, has made backward caste Nayab Singh Saini the Chief Minister and has created an equation of Punjabi through Manohar Lal Khattar, Gurjar through Krishan Pal Singh Gurjar and Yadav through Rao Indrajit Singh with the backward castes. But this does not create an equation of electoral victory unless the Dalit vote is divided. This work is being done by two regional parties of the state. BJP can also get this work done with their help.
Anyway, Om Prakash Chautala’s party Indian National Lok Dal has formed an alliance with Mayawati’s party BSP, while Chautala’s grandson and Jannayak Janata Party leader Dushyant Chautala has formed an alliance with Chandrashekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party. Both Mayawati and Chandrashekhar Azad are doing politics of the legacy of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshiram. Both these alliances will fight the elections with the equation of Jat and Dalit. If they divide any votes, it will harm the Congress.
