This tribal woman created history, went to appear for the exam just two days after giving birth to her daughter.
Recently, 23-year-old V Sripathy has not only created history by becoming the first tribal woman civil judge of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, but has also opened the way for the success of tribal women in the field of law. She has achieved this remarkable feat despite facing many challenges like marriage at an early age, living in a remote village with limited facilities and appearing for the examination just two days after giving birth to her daughter.
V Sripathy was born in Dhurijikuppam village in Tiruvannamalai district and brought up in Yelagiri Hills in Tirupattur district. She comes from the Malayali tribe which is one of the indigenous communities living in the Javadhu Hills of Tamil Nadu. His father Kalidas works as a domestic servant and is the only earning person in the family. He completed his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Government Law College, Tiruvannamalai and then obtained his Master of Laws degree from Dr. Ambedkar Law University in Chennai.
Traveled more than 200 kilometers for examination despite being pregnant
Because of her passion for law and justice, she wanted to become a judge. He prepared for the Tamil Nadu Civil Judge Examination, which is conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC). It consists of preliminary examination, main written examination and oral interview. During his preparation he faced many difficulties like lack of coaching, study material and internet access etc. Tamil Nadu News
She also had to balance her studies with her domestic responsibilities and pregnancy. She was pregnant during the main written examination held in November 2023. He traveled more than 200 kilometers from his village to the state capital Chennai to write the exam. She gave birth to her daughter on 27 November 2023 and two days later she appeared for the oral interview. He showed remarkable courage and confidence and impressed the interviewers with his knowledge and skills.
Sripati passed the examination and was selected as a civil judge along with 176 other candidates. He received his appointment order on 13 February 2024. Her husband Venkataraman is a lawyer by profession. He is a resident of Pulipur, a tribal settlement next to Javvadu hill. He supported Sripati’s dreams and ambitions and encouraged him to pursue his education and career. She has also shared household and child care responsibilities with him. He faced criticism and ridicule from some people for allowing his wife to study, but he stood by her side. He is proud of his wife and wants his daughter to follow in his footsteps.
