Thirumavalavan calls for consolidation of dalit, minority votes
Chennai: VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan has called for consolidation of dalit and minority votes to defeat BJP.
In a statement on Sunday, Thirumavalavan elaborated the reasons for the defeat of INDIA bloc in Maharashtra assembly elections and said the scattering of dalit votes was one of the key reasons.
“Dalits votes play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of assembly elections in Maharashtra. In a bid to prevent Dalit votes from going to INDIA bloc, BSP headed by Mayawati and Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) headed by Prakash Ambedkar fielded candidates in all the assembly constituencies,” Thirumavalavan charged. Thirumavalavan said that though the two leaders claimed that they have fielded candidates against both the NDA and the INDIA bloc, there was widespread criticism that they had fielded candidates only to split dalit votes to favour the BJP alliance.
The results of the Maharashtra election shows that it is high time for the opposition parties to consolidate the anti-BJP votes such as Dalits and minorities, Thirumavalavan said.
Thirumavalavan also demanded the Election Commission of India offer explanation for the charge that there were poll malpractices which resulted in BJP front winning all six assembly segments in Nanded Lok Sabha segment, which INDIA bloc candidate won the bypoll for Lok Sabha in the constituency.
The VCK chief extended wishes for Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren for his victory and Priyanka Gandhi for wining Wayanad by poll.
