Bulandshahr- A shocking incident has come to light in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where a 17-year-old Dalit student was brutally beaten up by teachers for cutting his hair. The student suffered serious head injuries and fractures in both his hands. The incident took place on January 25, but the case was initially suppressed by putting pressure on the victim’s family. However, after threats from the accused, the family lodged a complaint with the police in March.
The victim, who is a class 12 student, told that he had cut his hair in January, to which the teachers objected. The student’s mother Maya Rani told TOI, “My son came home and told that he was scolded by the teachers, and the next day (January 25) he was brutally beaten with sticks in school.” She further said that after the incident, her son was bed-ridden for over a month due to injuries and shock. “My son could not prepare properly for his board exams,” she added.
Maya Rani also alleged that the accused teachers forced her to compromise. He said, “But the accused teachers continued to threaten us and intimidated my son during the exam. We had no other option left, so we complained to the police. We want them to be arrested…”
Police registered FIR, serious allegations levelled against teachers
Circle Officer Shobhit Kumar, who is investigating the case, said, “An FIR has been registered on March 5 against Sonu Kumar, Vipin Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Manoj Kumar (I), Manoj Kumar (II), Yogesh Kumar, Yogendra and Prashant under Section 191 (2) (rioting), 110 (murder), 115 (2), 117 (4) (intentional hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and Section 3 (1) (2) of the SC/ST Act.” He said that the investigation is underway and further action will be taken. He also informed that the condition of the student is stable and he is appearing in his exams.
The teacher involved in the incident belongs to another caste and has been immediately suspended by the school administration. Saraswati Vidya Mandir School principal Purushottam Sharma said, “Such behaviour cannot be tolerated in a disciplined school like ours. Those teachers have been suspended and we will fully cooperate with the police investigation.”
This incident once again highlights the serious problem of caste violence and discrimination. The victim’s family is hoping for justice while the local administration and police are investigating the case thoroughly.
