Stand For Justice Even In The Most Challenging Situations, Says Prez
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched intently as the 80-feet-tall effigy of Ravana went up in flames amid cheers from a large crowd. They were attending the Dussehra celebrations organised by Shri Dharmik Leela Committee at the Red Fort grounds on Saturday.
Before the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna were set afire, Murmu and Modi applied tilak on the foreheads of actors who were enacting the characters of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Hanuman in the Ramlila. Both the leaders posted pictures of the Dussehra celebrations on social media.
President Murmu wrote on X, “On the auspicious occasion of Vijay Dashami, I extend heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all fellow citizens. This festival celebrates the triumph of justice over injustice. It symbolises our faith in the values of truth and integrity. We should resolve to stand for justice even in the most challenging situations. My best wishes are that this sacred festival brings happiness and prosperity to everyone’s life and that our country continues to progress on the path of development.”
Sharing pictures of the Ravana Dahan at Red Fort, Modi said on X, “Took part in the Vijaya Dashami programme in Delhi. Our capital is known for its wonderful Ramlila traditions. They are vibrant celebrations of faith, culture, and traditions.”
Ravanas of all sizes were put aflame with much fanfare across the city as the nine-day Navratri came to an end. At Dwarka Sector-10, a 211-ft effigy, claimed to be the tallest in the country, was set on fire. Former President Ramnath Kovind took part in the celebrations there.
Congress stalwarts Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi participated at the Nav Shri Dharmik Leela Committee Red Fort. Here, a 110-ft Ravana was incinerated. Earlier, Rahul extended greetings to people on X. “Heartfelt wishes to all fellow citizens on the grand festival of Vijayadashami, celebrating the victory of justice over injustice and truth over falsehood. I hope this festival fills your life with joy and happiness,” he posted.
At the event organised by Lav Kush Ramlila Committee, also at Red Fort, actors Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor and director Rohit Shetty were present. They were accompanied by BJP MP Manoj Tiwari.
