Stakeholders unite in Dibrugarh to enhance transgenders’ livelihood
Dibrugarh: A key district-level stakeholder engagement workshop on “Sustainable Livelihood for Trangender Community”, aimed at enhancing livelihood and opportunities for the transgender community, was held on Friday at Jagriti hall in Dibrugarh.
Organised by Akam foundation, Selco foundation and the state transgender welfare board, the event brought together 15 key stakeholders, including representatives from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), District Industries Commerce Centre (DICC), National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM), National Health Mission (NHM) and the transgender community.
The workshop provided a platform for the community members to voice their challenges related to livelihood and healthcare. Participants highlighted pressing issues such as discrimination in public spaces and need for a better access to livelihood and healthcare services.
NHM pledged to establish an extra ward, specifically for transgender individuals, ensuring they received adequate healthcare services tailored to their needs. The DICC also announced plans to provide financial assistance to empower community members and facilitate their entry into various livelihood opportunities.
