SP has activated its crime cell: UP BJP chief on Dalit woman’s murder
Lucknow: Hours after a Dalit woman was found murdered in Karhal in Mainpuri where byelection was held on Wednesday, UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary accused the Samajwadi Party of orchestrating the crime since the woman was allegedly killed after she expressed her intention to vote for the saffron party.
BJP’s positioning came soon after the family members of the girl levelled charges against a man, Prashant Yadav, accusing him of raping and killing the woman for not supporting the SP.
“The SP has activated its crime cell after it became convinced of losing the bypolls,” Chaudhary told reporters at the state party office in Lucknow.
Karhal is one of the nine assembly seats that went to the polls on Wednesday. The bypoll on the seat, inarguably a stronghold of the SP, was necessitated following the election of party president Akhilesh Yadav to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj.
“The SP is unwilling to let the bypolls pass peacefully. The party wants to spill blood. Everyone is witnessing the criminal conduct of the SP and the restlessness of Akhilesh Yadav,” he alleged.
“The ‘Saifai family’ and the goons of Akhilesh are unleashing terror in Mainpuri. Neither the BJP, nor the govt and people will tolerate this,” he said.
Chaudhary also accused the SP of bringing in “unscrupulous elements” into the bypoll-bound seats to influence the election. He slammed the SP for allegedly raising objections to the checking of ID cards of voters. “This is a part of SP’s outsourcing policy under which fake voters are being used for voting. This is similar to the SP stand of going out of the way to promote a particular religious community,” he said.
Chaudhary said that by raising questions on the Election Commission, the SP was only pointing fingers at itself. “The SP leadership is irritated because the public mood is against it,” he said, accusing the SP leadership of threatening the police and administrative officers on election duty.
Reacting to Akhilesh’s charge that the administration was deliberately stopping a section of people from voting, Chaudhary said that the SP was only playing “victim card”. “The BJP would register a comprehensive win in the bypolls. It will be a win of ‘sushashan’ (good governance),” he said.
