SC/ST grievance meetings in Dalit colonies soon: DCP
Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City police have decided to hold grievance meetings in Dalit colonies soon, said DCP (law and order) Anshu Kumar.
At the SC/ST grievance meeting held on Sunday, the DCP said already meetings are being held at the office of the city police commissioner and at police stations. Similarly, beat meetings are also being held. “However, only a few people take part in those meetings. Hence, it has been decided that grievance meetings will be held in Dalit colonies so that the problems of the community can be solved instantly by senior officers. Inspectors and sub-inspectors will visit colonies to hold meetings. If a colony has many major issues, then DCPs and ACPs also will take part in the meetings,” he said. “Meetings will be held once in a week at a selected colony,” he said adding that a final decision in this regard will be taken soon.
To a query by participant Amala Jyoti regarding SC/ST meetings to be chaired by the DC at the district level, which was not held in the past one year, the DCP said the issue will be brought to the notice of the DC.
To a request made by Dalit members seeking deployment of more cops in Preethi Nagar in Kankanady, the DCP directed officials to take necessary steps. TNN
