Sarpanch was not allowed to hoist the flag due to being a Dalit, Digvijay Singh demanded action
Rajgarh. On Saturday, when the country was celebrating 75th Republic Day, an elected sarpanch in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh was stopped from hoisting the flag just because he is a Dalit. The incident took place in Tarena Gram Panchayat in Biaora of Rajgarh district. Here Sarpanch Man Singh Verma could not hoist the flag on Republic Day.
Man Singh Verma told that because he was a Dalit, Employment Assistant Lakhan Singh did not allow him to salute the flag. After the matter came to light, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has demanded action against the accused. Singh tweeted the video of the victim Sarpanch and wrote, ‘The country is celebrating the 75th Republic Day but the situation is not improving. Despite Man Singh Verma ji being on the post of Sarpanch in Gram Panchayat Tarena of Biaora Tehsil of Rajgarh district, Employment Assistant Lakhan Singh did not allow him to salute the flag.
Former Chief Minister Singh has demanded from CM Mohan Yadav to suspend the guilty employment assistant. Singh said, ‘My direct question is, is it a crime to belong to a Scheduled Caste? Does the Sarpanch not have the right to hoist the flag in the Panchayat Bhawan? I request the Chief Minister that such guilty Employment Assistant Lakhan Singh should be immediately suspended and action should be taken under ST-SC Atrocity Act.
Let us tell you that despite all the claims, Dalits and tribals are still deprived of their rights under the BJP rule. Even after 78 years of independence, governments may not have been able to fulfill the promise of social justice. This is the reason that even today people of Dalit and tribal communities are facing the brunt of caste in the society.
