Rahul to visit Sangli, MVA members to unveil Patangrao Kadam’s statue
Kolhapur: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP (SCP) president Sharad Pawar, and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray will attend the programme organised to unveil the life-sized statue of the late Patangrao Kadam at Sonhira in Sangli’s Kadegaon tehsil on Sept 5.
Congress MLA Vishwajeet Kadam, late Patangrao Kadam’s son, announced the list of senior politicians who will attend the event. He met the district superintendent of police Sandip Ghuge to ensure the administration made all security arrangements. After unveiling the statue, Gandhi, Kharge, Pawar, Thackeray and other Maha Vikas Aghadi functionaries will also address a rally at Kadegaon.
“We decided to hold the event on Sept 5 as the day is celebrated as Teachers’ Day. My father was an educationist. Many senior politicians are going to attend the event. I have met the SP to ensure all security arrangements are made. There should be no lapse,” said Kadam.
Patangrao Kadam was one of the most respected politicians of Congress in Maharashtra. He was an educationist who founded the Bharati Vidyapeeth at the age of 20. He jumped into politics in the 1980s and went on to become a cabinet minister holding several portfolios multiple times. The Congress functionary passed away in March 2018 at the age of 73.
