Rahul targets Kejriwal, dares him to drink water from river

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenged AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday to drink the water from the Yamuna and accused him of not fulfilling on his promise of cleaning the river.
At a public gathering at Bawana, Gandhi alleged that Kejriwal speaks lies the same way Modi does. “Five years ago, Kejriwal said he would bathe in the Yamuna and drink its water. It’s been five years, and Kejriwal has not drunk the Yamuna’s water yet. But you have to drink dirty water. Kejriwal lives in the sheesh mahal worth crores, drinks clean water and pretends to care for you,” he said.
Gandhi then challenged him to drink the Yamuna water. “You make the people of Delhi drink dirty water while you drink clean water. I challenge you to drink the water today, and then we will meet you in the hospital, but you will never do this,” he said.
Gandhi said that unlike BJP and AAP, he and the Congress never made false promises and referred to the promises made to people of Karnataka and Telangana, which have been fulfilled after the party formed govt in the two states. “I don’t want to drink the Yamuna’s water because I know it’s polluted, so I will never make such false promises to you,” he said.
Gandhi’s attack on Kejriwal comes amid the controversy over the AAP supremo claiming that the Yamuna water entering from Haryana to Delhi was “being poisoned”.
Continuing his attack on the former chief minister, Gandhi said that Kejriwal has said he will bring clean politics, but he and his people “committed the biggest corruption in Delhi: the liquor scam.” He added that the whole country and every citizen of Delhi knows that he has been corrupt.
Gandhi reiterated the need to conduct a caste census and of removing the 50% reservation cap. “I want to ask Kejriwal to clearly state whether he intends to increase the reservation beyond 50% or not. I know that both Kejriwal and Modi are against reservation, Dalits, minorities, backward classes and poor people. Kejriwal should clearly declare that he will conduct a caste census in Delhi and work towards increasing the reservation beyond 50%,” Gandhi said.
The Congress MP added that when BJP resorted to violence against minorities in Delhi, Kejriwal was nowhere seen.
Referring to the pressing problems being faced by people, he said that there were no jobs in Delhi today in the regime of Modi and Kejriwal. Asking the public to support Congress’s candidates, Gandhi reiterated that India is not the country of hatred and fear but the country of love and harmony.
