Rahul ‘misconduct’: Gaurav asks BJP to back claim with footage
Guwahati: Congress’s Lok Sabha deputy leader Gaurav Gogoi has challenged the BJP-led govt to release footage to substantiate the alleged misbehaviour towards BJP woman MP from Nagaland, Phangnon Konyak, by leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi in Parliament.
Gaurav, a close aide of Rahul Gandhi and Lok Sabha MP from Assam’s Jorhat constituency, was speaking to the media at the state Congress headquarters on Monday.
Gaurav addressed the press conference to announce protest rallies across Assam districts on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Union home minister Amit Shah for allegedly insulting Ambedkar. “Is there any footage to substantiate the allegation against him (Rahul Gandhi)? Why is there no footage? BJP can manipulate reality through artificial intelligence. However, in this instance, they cannot reveal the footage because even if they do, they cannot substantiate their allegation,” Gogoi said.
Gogoi maintained that BJP’s FIR is ‘fabricated’. “I was accompanying Priyanka Gandhi on the day of the incident. The footage exists. It demonstrates how BJP’s male members confronted her with threatening behaviour,” he alleged. The Congress leader stated that the grand old party will conduct a protest rally against Amit Shah through Guwahati city, despite police restrictions.
“We anticipate receiving permission to conduct the procession,” Gogoi remarked, alleging that the Assam CM has displayed bias towards Congress. “The CM has implemented dual standards within Guwahati. His govt prohibits Rahul Gandhi from entering Guwahati, while Amit Shah and Modi ji have unrestricted access,” he added.
Gogoi voiced disappointment over Shah’s reluctance to apologise for his remarks about Ambedkar. “If India’s home minister considers himself more powerful and superior to Babasaheb Ambedkar, he ought to resign,” Gogoi said.
The Guwahati city police imposed a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in and around the capital complex at Dispur a few days ago. The prohibitory order commenced on December 19.
