Punish people who attacked dalit youths: CPM, VCK
Coimbatore: The VCK and the CPM on Friday condemned the brutal attack on the two dalit youths in Erode district a few days ago.
The CPM passed a resolution at the party’s state committee meeting in Coimbatore on the day, demanding police to arrest all the accused and ensure that they get severe punishment. “While 20 accused were booked under 10 counts for the murderous attack, not even one of them was arrested yet,” the resolution noted.
It condemned police for ‘foisting theft case’ on the two dalit youths to allegedly divert the case, due to pressure from the non-dalits. A group of CPM cadres also staged a protest in Erode district, demanding the arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, VCK founder Thirumavalavan also sought the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the violence. “The dalit youths were brutally beaten up after the mob found out their caste. If they had committed any offences, they could have been booked and subjected to legal action. But a brutal assault cannot be tolerated. Strict legal action should be taken against the accused,” he said.
