Priyanka stood by us when we were fighting against sexual harassment: Phogat
Kozhikode: Olympian and Congress MLA in Haryana, Vinesh Phogat said AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi had extended support in the fight against alleged sexual harassment by then Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan against female wrestlers.
Phogat was speaking at a UDF family gathering held in Kakkavayal in Kalpetta on Friday as part of the election campaign of UDF candidate Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad LS constituency.
Phogat said when the BJP protected Brij Bhushan the wrestlers had to engage in a significant struggle for justice. “This fight was not just for us but for society as well. Priyanka Gandhi’s expression of solidarity in the fight upholding a pro-women stance was our greatest inspiration,” she said.
Phogat added that Priyanka’s voice in India’s parliament would frighten even Narendra Modi and called upon the people to ensure that Priyanka is elected with a huge margin.
Meanwhile Priyanka will return for the third round of her campaign on Nov 10 and would attend rallies along with Rahul Gandhi on Nov 11.
