Priyanka, Sonia arrive in Wayanad
Kozhikode: AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi arrived in Wayanad from Mysuru with Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday night. She will file her nomination papers before Wayanad collector DR Meghasree at 12.30pm on Wednesday in the presence of her brother Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Rahul and Kharge will arrive in Kannur on a special flight on Wednesday and proceed in a helicopter to Sultan Bathery where they would meet Priyanka, and go to Kalpetta. Earlier, Priyanka, her husband Robert Vadra and Sonia flew down to Mysuru from New Delhi and proceeded by road to Sultan Bathery where they are staying at a resort. They were welcomed by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and KPCC president K Sudhakaran among others.
Congress and UDF have put in a lot of efforts to make her electoral foray a momentous event as Congress chief ministers and senior national leaders will be present when she files her nomination papers. Priyanka and Rahul will lead a road show from Kalpetta’s new bus stand premises at 11am, cover 1.4km and address a gathering opposite KWA’s office.
Rahul said he was confident that Priyanka will passionately champion the needs of Wayanad and become a powerful voice in Parliament. “The people of Wayanad hold a special place in my heart and I can’t imagine a better representative for them than my sister… Join us tomorrow, 23rd October, as she files her nomination… Together let’s ensure Wayanad continues to be represented with love,” he wrote on X.
Venugopal said the presence of Priyanka in Parliament is a necessity and we are confident that the people of Wayanad will create a brilliant circumstance for it.
Though Priyanka was actively involved in election campaigns in Gandhi family’s pocket boroughs of Amethi and Rae Bareli, Wayand bypoll marks her formal entry in electoral politics. Over the years, she has emerged as a star campaigner for the party and also a strategist.
If elected, it will also mark the first instance in which three members of the Gandhi family will be in Parliament together and she would join her mother who is a Rajya Sabha member and brother who represents Rae Bareli constituency. Priyanka will be contesting against LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri and NDA candidate Navya Haridas.
