Priyanka Gandhi to file nomination for Wayanad bypoll on Wednesday
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll on Wednesday, according to party sources.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, will be present for the event.
Prior to submitting her nomination, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi will lead a roadshow starting from Kalpetta New Bus Stand at 11 AM. The nomination will be officially filed before the district collector at 12 noon on October 23.
Priyanka Gandhi is the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate for the Wayanad parliamentary by-election.
“The Congress general secretary will officially file her nomination on Wednesday before the Returning Officer in Kalpetta,” a source stated.
Following the Election Commission’s announcement of the bypoll to the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat last week, Priyanka Gandhi’s electoral debut is set in the Kerala constituency, five years after she joined active politics.
Shortly after the EC announced the Wayanad bypoll, the Congress declared Priyanka Gandhi as its candidate for the Kerala seat.
With the party fielding AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi from Wayanad, local party workers have put up posters throughout the constituency that read “Wayanadinte Priyankari” (Wayanad’s beloved).
After the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress had announced in June that Rahul Gandhi would retain the Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh and vacate the Wayanad seat, allowing his sister Priyanka Gandhi to make her electoral debut.
If elected, this will mark Priyanka Gandhi’s first entry into Parliament as an MP.
