Poster sparks buzz of Akhilesh, Rahul joint campaign for bypolls
Lucknow: A poster showing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav outside the UP Congress headquarters in Lucknow added to the ongoing speculations that the two leaders may jointly campaign against the BJP in the upcoming bypolls.
The poster, credited to National Students’ Union of India’s UP chapter general secretary Aryam Mishra, targeted Yogi Adityanath’s slogan ‘Batenge toh katenge’ while asserting that the INDIA bloc would foil the plans of those who gave this slogan. It further stated that the INDIA bloc would open ‘Mohabbat ki dukaan’ in UP.
NSUI national secretary Pranav Pandey said: “BJP has always fostered the politics of religion besides relying on divide and rule. The slogan of ‘Batoge toh katoge’ is another example that proves their faith in the ideology. On the contrary, the INDIA bloc upholds unity in diversity and therefore its ‘Mohabbat ki dukan’ has a place for all.” Meanwhile, the poster added to the speculation that top leaders of the Congress and SP were likely to hold joint public events as part of the campaign for the 2024 bypolls on Nov 20.
Senior Congress functionaries though said that ‘there was no precedent of national leaders campaigning during any bypolls.
UP Congress president Ajay Rai said: “Congress party has decided that the INDIA bloc would take on the BJP with SP fielding candidates on all the nine seats. We are all prepared to campaign with SP leaders. In fact, our workers are already on the job on the seats.”
