Police assure safety to Dalit man whose pvt part ‘slashed’
AGRA: A 32-year-old Dalit man, who was brutally beaten up and his private part allegedly slashed by upper caste men for “objecting” to tree felling on his land in UP’s Etah district, has returned to his home in village Hasanpur 10 days after the incident after he was assured of safety and well-being by UP police.
Victim Satendra Kumar along with his four-month pregnant wife and two minor kids had left the village after being threatened by the accused men after he managed to get an FIR registered on June 16, two days after the incident.
Three other Dalit families who had left the village after placing “house on sale” signs on the doors of their houses are also willing to return. Meanwhile, round-the-clock deployment of police has been made in the village to maintain law and order. The two accused — Vikram Singh Thakur and Satendra alias Bhuray Thakur remain absconding.
Talking to TOI on Wednesday, Satendra said, “Police officials boosted my morale and asked me to return home. They assured of support and committed to ensure safety and well-being of me and my family. Police is taking necessary action on complaint I had filed.” DSP Vikrant Dwivedi said, “Proceedings as per the provisions under CrPC section 41A (notice of appearance before police officer) is ongoing. The accused men will be arrested if they fail to cooperate in the investigation. Police personel have been deployed in the village to prevent any attempt to distrub the law and order.”
