Partner slashes transgender person’s genitals in Delhi
The victim underwent a surgery at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition, the Delhi Police said.
A 22-year-old transgender person’s genitals were allegedly slashed by their partner in North East Delhi’s Seelampur early on Saturday.
The victim identified as Sonu underwent a surgery at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition, the police said.
Sonu told the police that their partner lured Sonu to a park near their house around 1.30 am on Saturday where they were overpowered and assaulted.
The police said both the victim and the accused were transgender people who identified themselves as intersex and were in a relationship.
“Around 1.30 am, I was standing near the jhuggis and talking to my friend. We walked to the park nearby and at around 3 am, my partner forced me to take off my pants and slashed my genitals with a knife,” Sonu stated in the First Information Report (FIR).
According to their complaint, Sonu, who was bleeding profusely, ran back home. They were first rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra hospital and later referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital before being shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
“They were living together. The two of them seemed to have an altercation over past issues forcing the accused to slash the victim’s private parts,” said a police officer.
However Sonu’s family alleged that the two had not been living together for over a year.
Sonu’s sister Sana told reporters that the accused used to repeatedly assault her ‘brother’ following which she had a lodged a complaint with the police.
“Over a year ago the accused told us that he wants to marry my brother and wished to live like a husband and wife…there were many fights between him (the accused) and me. He had hit my brother many times too,” she alleged.
“For one-and-a-half years the two did not talk or meet each other. Then he called my brother to the park and assaulted him,” she said.
The police at the Seelampur station have registered a case under sections 115 (2) (voluntarily causing harm) and 126 (2) (wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Meanwhile, the police are yet to arrest the accused.
