Panel to find ways for preserving Bhagat Singh’s Ferozepur hideout
Bathinda: The Ferozepur district administration has decided to form a committee comprising representatives of the district administration and the Naujawan Bharat Sabha to work out how the two-storeyed house in Toori Bazaar of Ferozepur used by freedom fighters, including Bhagat Singh, as hideout, could be better preserved and turn it into a museum and library.
The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for Sept 30 in which the present owner of the property will also be involved.
Ferozepur tehsildar Rajinder Singh on Saturday, the 117th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, apprised the NBS activists about the district administration’s decision to form a committee on the house following which the organisation lifted the three-day-long protest from outside the Ferozepur deputy commissioner’s office.
Earlier, the NBS had disrupted the vehicular traffic for nearly an hour outside the DC office.
The NBS, seeking to convert the two-story house into museum and library, had started an indefinite protest at the DC office on Sept 26. They also paid floral tributes to the revolutionary on his 117th birth anniversary at the protest site.
NBS general secretary Manga Azad and state committee member Naunihal Singh said for a long time they had been asking for converting the house used by the revolutionaries for nearly six months in 1928-29 into a museum and a library, but the govt was not paying heed to their demands.
