Minister draws Cong’s ire for remark against Priyanka Gandhi
Lucknow: Congress turncoat and UP minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, drew the ire of Congress cadre on Wednesday for his remark on party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Singh alleged mocked Congress decision to field Priyanka from Wayanad seat of Kerala, which is going for byelection.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who held Wayanad from 2019-24, contested the seat again in 2024 along with Rae Bareli. He won both the seats and retained Rae Bareli, thereby necessitating bypoll in Wayanad.
In Rae Bareli, Rahul defeated Dinesh Singh with a hefty margin of over 3.9 lakh votes.
“Ultimately the girl could not fight and ran away to the place where she doesn’t need to fight. She has grown old,” said Singh on X handle.
Besides taking on Singh on social media, UP Congress chief Ajay Rai said: “This statement comes from a minister in the UP govt who miserably lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Rae Bareli. The kind of thoughts and words he uses about women explains the poor state of women’s safety in UP, where the govt rewards such persons by making them a minister.”
Several Congress workers reached Singh’s home and painted his nameplate black. They also wrote ‘chor’ (thief) and ‘beiman (dishonest)’ at the entrance gate.
Dinesh Singh’s statement was criticized by Samajwadi Party MLC Uday Veer Singh as well. “Can there be a limit to thanklessness and opportunism? If there was a gold medal for this, you (Dinesh Singh) would have won it. There were days when you were never tired of touching the feet of the girl (indicating Priyanka Gandhi) and now you are saying (such things),” he said.
