Man who raped Dalit minor girl got double life imprisonment

New Delhi: A special POCSO court has sentenced a man to double life imprisonment for raping a minor Dalit girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the accused. The court also directed to provide compensation of Rs 50,000 to the victim.

The prosecution has told the court that on June 13, 2017, the victim’s working father had lodged a missing report of the minor daughter. On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the criminal while searching for the minor. The minor had told the police that the accused Shambhu Barman alias Guddu had taken her with him and had also raped her forcibly. The police have registered a case under sections of the POCSO Act and the SC/ST Act.

Considering the witnesses and evidence presented during the trial, the court sentenced the accused to double life imprisonment under various sections. Additional District Public Prosecution Officer Smritilata Barkade represented the government.
