Maharashtra polls: Rahul Gandhi attacks NDA, claims MVA govt dislodged for 2 industrialists’ benefit
MUMBAI: Joining hands at a joint election rally, MVA politicians Tuesday gave a clarion call for ousting the Mahayuti govt led by Eknath Shinde, saying it had failed on all fronts, and called for reinstalling the MVA govt comprising Congress, UBT Sena and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP.
They claimed that the Mahayuti govt was clandestinely formed by BJP in connivance with Eknath Shinde.
Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that for the benefit of two industrialists, the democratically elected (MVA) govt was dislodged.
At another rally earlier in the day in Nagpur, Rahul Gandhi accused BJP and RSS of eroding core values enshrined in the Constitution. Speaking at a ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ there, he demanded a national caste census.
In his speech at BKC, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Narendra Modi-led NDA government had “surrendered before Adani,” a reference to the Adani Group which has got the project to redevelop Dharavi. “The entire Dharavi land worth Rs one lakh crore has been given to Adanis, and key projects including the iPhone project, Tata Airbus, the semiconductor project have been shifted to Gujarat, which resulted in a loss of more than five lakh jobs. It appears that the entire NDA govt is working for the cause of Adani at the cost of Maharashtra,” Gandhi said.
Further, Rahul said that on one hand, the state govt is promising assistance to womenfolk as well as farmers, but at the same time, heavy taxes have been imposed on the poor people, which came to nearly Rs 90,000 per person per year. “Whatever steps have been taken by the Modi govt, including notebandi and imposition of GST, have caused massive loss to the common man, while the rich people have benefited,” he claimed.
He said that at a juncture when the common man is at the receiving end, the MVA has come out with five guarantees which will help reduce the financial burden on womenfolk, youth and farmers.
Gandhi said the influence of the RSS on the entire administration and on government intuitions and universities appeared to be rampant. “If we check the list of vice-chancellors of universities, it will be found that all belong to the RSS. Most of them are incompetent. We will have to change the situation, so the need of the hour is to install the INDIA bloc govt at the Centre,” he said.
Uddhav Thackeray spoke at length on financial assistance for youths and the way he said Adani had “grabbed land in all of Mumbai.” “In view of massive unemployment, MVA will grant a monthly financial assistance of Rs 4,000 to educated unemployed youth,” Thackeray said.
Thackeray reiterated that the MVA would scrap the Dharavi project and “cancel all tenders pertaining to the Adani project.”
Sharad Pawar spoke at length on the loan waiver scheme and alleged corruption by the MVA govt.
