LJP (RV) reiterates demand for creation of Dalit University
Patna: At its national council meeting held in New Delhi’s Constitution Club on Tuesday, the LJP (Ram Vilas) demanded Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country, to Dalit politician late Ram Vilas Paswan for his contributions to the country.
Altogether five proposals were passed at the national council meeting of the party and the first one was related to conferring of highest civilian award to late Paswan, father of LJP (RV) chief Chirag Paswan who has moved closer to the BJP again. The meeting also demanded setting up of a Dalit University and a library in memory of Paswan, besides installation of the late leader’s life-size statue in Patna.
The meeting voiced serious concern over increasing cases of attacks on Dalits and minority people while urging the central government to take cognizance of such cases at the national level. The meeting also demanded the constitution of new courts and appointment of judges for speedy disposal of liquor-related cases pending in Bihar courts.
“A large number of pending liquor-related cases in the courts have crumbled the justice delivery system in Bihar,” the proposal passed at the meeting said, adding some three to four lakh prisoners are languishing in Bihar jails in liquor-related cases and majority of them come from Dalit class.
The party condemned alleged attacks on migrant labourers from Bihar in other parts of the country and expressed concern over the “alarming” law and order situation in the state.
At the same time, the meeting expressed happiness over the magnificent performance of the party in the just-concluded Nagaland assembly elections in which the LJP (RV) got 9% votes, thus emerging as the third major party in the state.
The LJP (RV) had fielded candidates on 15 seats in the northeastern state and emerged victorious on two seats. It finished second on nine seats.
The party also expressed happiness over its performance in byelection to Kurhani and Mokama assembly seats in Bihar. “The poll performance on the two seats makes it clear that where there is Chirag, there is a mass base,” the leaders said.
