Left slams UP govt on law and order
The Left parties said that crime against women, especially Dalit women, was on the rise in Uttar Pradesh and expressed concern over such incidents, including one recently reported from Lakhimpur Kheri where two Dalit sisters were allegedly killed after rape.
The Communist Party of India (Marxists) in a statement said law and order in UP was deteriorating day by day and the government had no control on it.
The party said the government only hastened investigation into the rape and murder of two minor Dalit sisters as after the Lakhimpur incident such incidents were reported from Ballia, Chitrakoot and Budaun.
“It appears that the government has surrendered before those raping and killing Dalit women in UP. The government machinery is merely busy in completing formalities in the name of investigation,” the party said.
It said these incidents mirrored the poor law and order in UP and the rise in crime incidents.
“The rate of prosecution is very low in comparison to the crimes reported and this shows the government’s slackness in pursuing cases against the miscreants,” the party said and demanded that such cases be tried in fast track courts to ensure speedy justice to the victims.
The CPI-M also criticised the ministers and ruling party leaders for giving a communal colour to the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and said this should be contained as soon as possible.
The Communist Party of India (Marxists-Leninist) took a jibe at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s claim that the law and order in UP was an example for the world, saying the recent rape and murders reported from various district of UP including in Lakhimpur Kheri exposed the claim.
“If this is an example of best law and order then what is the definition of poor law and order?” the party asked in a statement.
CPI (ML) state secretary Sudhakar Yadav said even the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) stated that UP topped the list in crimes against Dalits and women.
“The number of custodial deaths is no less. The government pats its own back by showing the number of encounters the police made during the Bharatiya Janata Party regime. In the light of NCRB figures, the chief minister’s statement on best law and order in UP is a sheer joke,” Yadav commented.
Meanwhile, a delegation of CPI (ML) visited Lakhimpur for an inquiry into the death of Dalit sisters. The party demanded a high-level probe into the case
