Kolarpatti panchayat makes dalit students play parai
Coimbatore: Kolarpatti panchayat has courted a controversy by making dalit students of the panchayat union middle school play parai (a musical instrument) during the World Toilet Day awareness rally on Saturday.
Su Thirumoorthy, Pollachi union secretary, Welfare Party of India, has lodged a complaint with Pollachi sub-collector S Priyanka in this regard. He said the students were also made to clean toilets and premises of the schools. He has sought severe action against the panchayat officials and school authorities.
When contacted, Coimbatore chief education officer R Boopathy told TOI that he would seek a report from the education department official in Pollachi into the incident and take departmental action against the school/panchayat officials. TNN
