Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah accuses BJP of exploiting Dalit leaders in political vendetta
BENGALURU BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday hit out at BJP leaders protesting against Congress leaders criticising Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot for allowing prosecution against him in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case. “Karnataka BJP leaders, who cannot answer our questions about the wrongdoings of Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, are now playing the ‘Dalit card’.
This is an insult to the self-respecting Dalit community,” the chief minister said, taking aim at ‘X’. Siddaramaiah questioned if BJP leaders really respected and admired Thaawarchand Gehlot, who belongs to the Dalit community, why did they make him a ‘caged parrot’ instead of keeping him in the Union Cabinet? “
“By taking away his ministerial role and using a Dalit leader as a pawn in your vendetta against political opponents, are you not doing gross injustice and insult to the Dalit community?” the Chief Minister questioned. The Chief Minister said that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had made Bangaru Laxman, who comes from the Dalit community, the national president of the BJP.
But the BJP leaders could not tolerate this and levelled false allegations of corruption against him, which led to his untimely death. He asked the BJP to learn from how senior Congress leaders treat All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge, who comes from the Dalit community, with utmost respect and dignity.
