The incident, which dates back to August 28, 2014, involved setting fire to the homes of the Dalit community in Marakumbi village, Gangavathi Taluk.
The attack erupted following the exclusion of Dalits from local shops and eateries, an act that ignited widespread outrage and demonstrations across the state. The conviction of these individuals underscores the severity of the offense, marking a pivotal point in the fight against caste discrimination.
Throughout the trial, 16 of the initial 117 accused unfortunately died, but the court’s decision stands as a stern warning against caste-based violence.
