Congress leader Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi: The political temperature of the country is once again on the rise regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Vietnam visit. BJP on Saturday claimed that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is spending more time in Vietnam than in his parliamentary constituency. BJP said, ‘Rahul Gandhi should give clarification about his ‘extraordinary attachment’ towards this South East Asian country. BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a press conference, “Where is Rahul Gandhi? I have heard that he has gone to Vietnam.” Prasad said Gandhi was in the South-East Asian country even during the New Year and spent about 22 days there. “He does not spend many days in his constituency. What is the reason for his sudden love for Vietnam?” the BJP leader questioned. He said Gandhi is the leader of the opposition and should be available in India. Prasad said, “Rahul Gandhi should explain his extraordinary fondness for Vietnam. His frequent visits to that country are very curious.” Rahul Gandhi on BJP’s target BJP has long been targeting Gandhi’s foreign trips. The ruling party has attempted to portray him as a non-serious leader who is inept at the nuances of domestic politics. BJP IT department chief Amit Malviya said that details of Gandhi’s frequent foreign trips are neither given in Parliament nor made public. He sought clarification from the Congress on this issue. Malviya said in a post released on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘Rahul Gandhi holds an important position as the Leader of the Opposition and his many secret foreign trips – especially during the Parliament session – raise serious questions on propriety and national security.’
Congress’s counter-attack
The Congress has accused the BJP of politicizing his personal visit. The party argued that as an individual he has the right to travel abroad. After the death of former Prime Minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh on 26 December last year, Gandhi had visited Vietnam, which was criticized by the BJP. BJP’s IT department chief Amit Malviya had then said that when the country was mourning Singh’s death, Rahul Gandhi had gone to Vietnam to celebrate the New Year.
‘BJP is unnecessarily creating a ruckus’
Congress’s counter-attack has also come to the fore on BJP’s allegation. Congress says that everyone has the right to go abroad. BJP is unnecessarily creating a ruckus. Amidst the uproar over Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trip, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that BJP’s uproar is absolutely wrong, it is not necessary that every leader should be present in the country on every festival. Did PM Modi play Holi? I have never seen him playing Holi. I have never seen RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat playing Holi. Accusing Rahul Gandhi is wrong. Everyone has their own right. Don’t BJP people go abroad? BJP people mislead about Rahul Gandhi. BJP only works to give unnecessary statements about the Gandhi family.
‘There is no restriction on anyone going abroad’
Regarding the reason behind why Rahul Gandhi has gone abroad, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that only Rahul Gandhi can give more information about this. But, there is no restriction on anyone going abroad. The second thing is that he can celebrate the festival of Holi in any country. Indians living abroad also celebrate Holi. We do not celebrate Holi here at home, but we celebrate Holi in our area. Rahul Gandhi must have celebrated Holi wherever he went.
