In Haridwar, 4 cops booked for thrashing Dalit woman in police station

HARIDWAR: On the direction of the Haridwar SC/ST court, four policemen were booked for allegedly thrashing a Dalit woman inside a The complainant, Rani, said she would often have fights with her brother-in-law, Ashok.
She said she had approached police after the latter thrashed her and her husband, but police not only refused to register the complaint, they took her to the police station and beat her up there, all the while making casteist comments. After this, she moved court in 2021.
Seven other persons, Ashok’s tenants who allegedly beat the couple up along with him, have also been ordered to be booked by the court. Circle officer BS Chauhan told TOI, “After the court orders, SHO, SIDCUL, Prashant Bahuguna, SI Dilbar Singh, constables Ramesh Chauhan and Sobha have been booked under relevant sections.”
