In Defense Of Ritu Singh, A Dalit Teacher Against Caste Bias
Ritu Singh has been bravely resisting injustice meted out to her in the backdrop of her termination from Daulat Ram College where she served adhoc in Psychology Department.
Ritwik Trivedi
Holding a doctoral degree she has charged college principal Dr Savita Roy for being biased and discriminatory towards her right from the very start.
Ritu who had joined DRC in 2019 was fired from Daulat Ram College in August 2020 since than she has been holding to her forte especially for the brunt she had to bear hailing from an SC community. For the last three months she is occupying the space right outside Arts faculty at University of Delhi ‘s North Campus.
Taking the battle to court Ritu has vowed to not stay still until and unless her perpetrators are not brought to justice ridiculing and mocking her caste identity grudgingly and intentionally to provoke her with a malafide intention embarassing and humiliating her further. Over the last few years we have been privy to the acts and forms of how discrimination on the name of caste and community has been routinized, normalised and institutionalized from Payal Tadvi to Rohit Vermula leading to a shame, sorrow and guilt hard to suppress and swallow.
What than lies ahead is a kind of pain that makes their own existence miserable unable to fend for themselves many unapologetically take the extreme step. Can I ask who will ensure justice, equality and dignity for this section relegated fo the bottom from education to employment lagging far behind on different indices and parameters.
People from the affluent and privilege background need to rise up to the occasion by taking a decisive step for making Ritu’s campaign a major major hit within and outside the campus
