Implementation of sub-classification of quota in Hry a bid to divide Dalits: Maya
Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati on Friday said that the Haryana govt’s decision to implement the Supreme Court order regarding sub-classification of SC/STs for quota is “meant to divide Dalits and pit them against each other”.
In a series of posts on X, the former UP CM said, “The decision of the new BJP govt of Haryana to implement classification in reservation for SCs, and quota within quota, is a conspiracy to divide Dalits and pit them against each other. This decision is not only anti-Dalit but also anti-reservation.”
She also criticized the BJP govt at the Centre for not restraining the Haryana govt from implementing the SC order. “It shows that like Congress, BJP is also conspiring to first make reservation ineffective and inactive and, ultimately, scrap it. This is highly inappropriate and BSP is strongly opposed to it,” she said.
The BJP govt in Haryana, in its first cabinet meeting on Friday, decided to implement the Aug 1 order of the SC that called for sub-classification of SC/STs for reservation and implementing the creamy layer concept among the communities.
“We will continue our struggle to unite these communities and make them into the ruling class,” Mayawati said.
In the upcoming elections in Nov, including bypolls for nine assembly seats in UP, BSP will ask its voters to unite under its banner to save reservation provided to them by the Constitution.
“Behenji is the only leader who opposed the order and is speaking against the govt’s intention to put reservation for weaker sections to end. BSP will go to bypolls with the agenda to save reservation. The objective of ‘nukkad’ meetings in the assembly constituencies where bypolls are due, is to inform voters about the truth,” a senior party leader said.
