Hyderabad: Dalit organizations demolish parapet wall at Dr. BR Ambedkar statue; Tensions flare at tank bund
A parapet wall constructed on oneside of the Ambedkar Statue traffic island at Tank Bund became constroversial. Dalit organistions members demolished the wall, which they say is intended to curtail view of the statue.

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Tank Bund after Dalit organisations demolished the newly constructed parapet wall around the Dr BR Ambedkar Statue here on Tuesday night.
Raising “Baba Saab Ambedkar Zindabad”, the dalit organizations members condemned the move to increase the height of the parapet wall around the statue. Irrespective of political parties and organization, people from different walks of society gather at the BR Ambedkar statue to pay tributes to the freedom fighter and father of Indian constituion during his birth and death anniversaries.
However, the move to increase the height of the parapet wall has not gone well with a few dalit organizations.
Soon as the members demolished the new parapet wall, police arrived at the spot and took a few persons into custody.
The BRS also opposed the move to construct a new parapet wall around the statue.
“Dr BR Ambedkar Statue at Tankbund has been a centre for thousands of peaceful and democratic protests. Congress Government has constructed a Wall to Block the front side which was also Entrance,” BRS leader Manne Krishank said on X.
“Is this Congress’s Democracy and respect to Babasaheb Ambedkar,” he asked tagging Congress MP RahulGandhi.
In a late night post on X, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) explainedt that the parapet wall was constructed as part of efforts to enhance key junctions in the city. The development features a replica of the Parliament building, symbolizing Ambedkar’s immense contributions to the Constitution of India and parliamentary democracy, it said.
