Hry Cong chief yet to issue statement over election loss
Chandigarh: A day after LoP in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi termed the aspirations of party leaders in Haryana as one of the reasons for its defeat, HPCC president Udai Bhan is yet to come out with any statement, and hasn’t taken moral responsibility for the loss.
Contrary to the exit polls that predicted a clear majority for Congress, it could not go beyond 37 seats (8 short of the magic number). BJP won 48 seats, independents three and INLD two. After their win, all three independents pledged to support BJP.
Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli Friday took a dig at HPCC for continuing to blame EVMs for the party’s defeat, and its leaders for maintaining silence.
Speculations are rife about a change of guard in Haryana Congress. However, a Congress spokesperson said, “There is no such move. Leaders are analysing the results. We are also studying certain figures related to vote share and vote count of BJP and Congress.”
Repeated attempts to reach out to HPCC chief Bhan, who had teamed up with CLP leader Bhupinder Hooda to spearhead the poll campaign failed. Hooda had termed Udai Bhan as the senior most dalit leader of the party. Udai Bhan himself lost to the BJP candidate from Hodal assembly constituency.
Speaking to the media in Sonipat, Badoli, flayed Congress and its leaders. “Not accepting defeat after losing elections is an old habit of Congress and its leaders. They will keep on introspecting the results. They will keep blaming each other for the defeat. They cannot improve this way,” he added. TNN
