Havoc continues on Dalits: Incidents of Dalit oppression in UP, MP and Rajasthan
The incidents of Dalit oppression are not decreasing in every area across the country. Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called the 75th anniversary of independence as the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, the hearts of the so-called upper caste people are still filled with poison for the Dalits. Recently, incidents of targeting of Dalits have come to light from three states Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
A Dalit groom has been reportedly attacked by ‘upper caste’ people in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district. Police said the groom was pulled down from the carriage (horse-drawn carriage) and assaulted while his wedding procession was passing through their area.
According to the Indian Express report, police say that the family of groom Naresh Jatav has alleged that the accused had objected to the wedding procession passing through their area. However, the accused allege that notes were thrown at a woman from the locality during the marriage procession, which led to a fight. The incident is reported to have happened on the night of 20th May.
According to the report of NDTV, angry bullies threw the groom down from the carriage and beat him up due to the marriage procession of the Dalit groom outside his house in Karhiya village. Along with this, the canopy and lights of the carriage were broken and thrown into the drain. The groom and the wedding guests were subjected to caste based abuses. After this, water was thrown on the wedding processions from the rooftops of the houses. At the same time, some people entered the procession and fired in the air with guns and knives.
According to the complaint lodged with the police, the accused also assaulted the wedding guests who came to save the groom Naresh Jatav. The DJs were also beaten and stones were pelted at the DJ. Disco lights were broken. An attempt was made to uproot the sound system.
Rinku Jatav, the groom’s cousin, told the police that the accused were opposing their passing in a carriage in front of their house. Dabang Sanjay, Dalbir, Sandeep and Anil Rawat also fired in the air with guns and knives to spread panic in the procession.
In this case, a complaint has also been made by the accused party. They allege that the wedding guests were looting the notes while dancing. When they refused to let the notes fall on the women, the wedding guests started fighting. Police are investigating the allegations from both sides. ASP Niranjan Sharma said that the marriage procession has been attacked. A complaint and a counter-complaint have been filed by both the parties.
Dalit youth beaten with batons for hours in Rajasthan, dies
In Surajgarh area of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, a Dalit employee working in a cow shed was hanged upside down with an iron pipe by tying his legs. During this, his soles were beaten with sticks for 6 hours. The young man died due to severe third degree torture. All the accused involved in this murder were arrested by the police within 48 hours of the incident. The police have also detained a minor in this case. Police investigation revealed that these accused had made videos while assaulting the youth. Two videos of the incident surfaced on Tuesday.
According to the report of The Mooknayak, Surajgarh police station incharge of Jhunjhunu district, Sukhdev Singh said, “There is enmity between the liquor contract employees and illegal liquor makers in Baloda. This incident has been carried out on suspicion of sale of illegal liquor in the area.” The liquor vend businessmen felt that their income was being affected by the liquor vends.
Rameshwar Valmiki (27), son of Hanuman, who works in a cowshed, has contacts with illegal liquor makers and they want to end their business through Rameshwar. Due to this rivalry, the accused kidnapped Rameshwar from his house.
Police station in-charge said – “On the morning of 14th May, after returning from the cowshed, Rameshwar left home at 11 am to attend a funeral program. As soon as he left, the miscreants kidnapped him in a camper car and took him to a mansion. There they tied him up and kept him there for 6 hours. He was beaten severely by two accused and then made to lie down and beaten badly. He became unconscious and died after throwing his dead body near his house.
On information, DSP Vikas Dhindwal and Police Officer Sukhdev Singh reached the spot immediately. Dog squad was also called. It is being told that the accused had also taken Rameshwar to a private hospital in Satnali, Haryana. There the doctors declared him dead. After this, they threw him outside his house at 7 pm and ran away.
Dalit woman stopped from worshiping well in UP, beaten up
The elders protested during the ritual of worshiping a well during a marriage ceremony in a Dalit family in the Cantonment police station area of Basti district of UP. The Dalit woman alleges that she was stopped from worshiping the well. When the woman protested, her blouse was pulled away. He was subjected to caste based abuses and was also beaten.
According to the report of The Mooknayak, the woman alleges that the regional police did not take any action in this matter. The woman has given a complaint letter to the Superintendent of Police demanding action. The Superintendent of Police has ordered the station in-charge to investigate and take action.
The family alleges that the police station took our statements and noted down the numbers of the witnesses and gave these numbers to the accused. Now he is threatening us.
The whole matter is of Sauri village of Cantonment police station of Basti district. Anita’s wife Ramkumar Kanojia has written a letter to the Superintendent of Police, Basti, pleading for justice. In the letter, he has accused Jagannath Upadhyay, son of Raj Upadhyay of the same village, that he was dancing and singing with the DJ in the well worship program at his brother-in-law’s wedding on April 18, 2024. During this time Raj Upadhyay opposed worshiping the well.
Anita alleges that Raj Upadhyay used casteist words and abused the people attending the wedding ceremony. He started threatening to stop the DJ. When she protested against this and started climbing the public well, Raj Upadhyay became upset with this and started beating Anita and also tore her blouse.
