Group clash during Navaratri festivities near Bhopal; caste-related fight say Dalits
Bhopal: Navaratri celebration was soured up in a village near Bhopal on Sunday, with people of two communities indulging in a fight with each other over the festivities, said police sources.
The incident took place in Kankar village of Agar district, which is about 200 kilometers away from Bhopal, said the police, adding that the video of the fight among the people has gone viral.
The Dalits in the village have apparently complained to the police that members of the higher castes attacked them for having installed an idol of Goddess Durga for the festival.
Naval Singh Sisodia, senior police officer, has said that a dance programme organized for the festival triggered the tussle between the groups.
It is learned that one of the groups considered a dance presented by a couple of girls during the conventional garba dance of the Navaratri celebration as ‘indecent’.
“The group members hit each other with sticks. Three of them have been arrested. We will take suitable action against the guilty parties,” Sisodia has stated.
