For Himanta Biswa Sarma dalits and backward class are born to serve upper caste, claims Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on January 23 accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of making derogatory remarks about backward classes and Dalits, claiming they are “born to serve upper-caste people.” The Congress leader called on the people of Assam, particularly the OBCs and Dalits, to question their Chief Minister’s divisive comments.

Addressing a gathering in Barpeta during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi expressed his concern over the reported tweet where Sarma allegedly stated, “Other backward classes like Dalits are born to work for the upper caste.” He urged the people to break their silence and confront the Chief Minister stating that minorities should not be behind in challenging such divisive rhetoric.
Gandhi also revealed an incident involving Assam University students who expressed a desire to listen to him and engage in a conversation. Allegedly, Chief Minister Sarma intervened, threatening consequences if the students were allowed to interact with the Congress leader. The university subsequently canceled the program, but Gandhi claimed that Assam’s youth stand firmly with him.
“Himanta Biswa Sarma and Amit Shah cannot threaten the youths of Assam. If they think they can intimidate the people of Assam, they can’t. In the upcoming elections, Congress will come to power in Assam and then we will see who is posting what on Twitter and who is filing cases against whom,” declared Gandhi confidently.
Highlighting the Congress party’s commitment to fostering unity, Gandhi reflected on the Bharat Jodo Yatra conducted last year, covering 4000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. He emphasized the need to counter hate with love, symbolized by the tagline, “Nafrat ke bazar main muhabbat ki dukaan kholni hain.”
