There is no doubt that with the launch of Dalit Bandhu Scheme in Telangana the life of Dalits has changed. Dalits, who once worked as laborers, have now become entrepreneurs and are driving development.
Taking a step forward, three members of the community thought a little out of the box and set up a first-of-its-kind rice mill under Dalit Bandhu. Though earthmovers, harvesters, tippers and other large vehicles were purchased by the beneficiaries in groups, this is the first time that the beneficiaries are coming together to set up a rice mill since the launch of the scheme in August 2021.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao will inaugurate a rice mill named Vijayalakshmi Industries on Monday. Three beneficiaries Sudamalla Rajeshwari, Sudamalla Vijay Kumar of Padira in Yellareddypet mandal and Dapula Lingayah of Rangampet in Veernapalli mandal formed a group and decided to set up a rice mill.
While Rajeshwari’s husband Surendra and Lingayah both had lorries, Vijay Kumar has returned from the Gulf. As part of his plan, he bought three acres of land on the outskirts of Dumala in Yellareddypet mandal by spending Rs 30 lakh. In addition to the Rs 30 lakh (Rs 10 lakh each) sanctioned under Dalit Bandhu, he took a well-timed bank loan to set up a raw rice mill.
