Fellow students trick Dalit student to drink ‘cool drink mix with urine’ in Tamil Nadu Law University
A final-year student at Tamil Nadu National Law University, Trichy lodged a complaint with the Vice Chancellor accusing two classmates of offering soft drinks mixed with urine and the incident reportedly occurred during the night hours in the hostel room.

Trichy: The Registrar of Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), has filed a police complaint against two final-year students who forced one of their classmates to consume urine mixed with a soft drink last week after an interim fact-finding inquiry committee’s report submitted before the anti-ragging committee confirming the harassment. Following the complaint, Trichy began a probe into the matter on Friday.
Two students who are studying in the final year of Bachelor of Law BA LLB (Hons) at the National Law University, were accused of mixing urine in a cold drink and making a fellow student who belonged to a scheduled caste drink it in the college hostel room.
According to police, the Dalit was offered a cool drink by classmates on the night of January 6. The next day in the class, the Dalit student was mocked and teased by the two students revealing the ‘truth’ that he had mixed urine in the soft drink that he drunk last night. Shocked by this, the student complained to his professors.
The professors brought the complaint to the notice of the university Registrar and Vice-chancellor. Subsequently, an interim fact-finding inquiry committee comprising 3 professors to investigate the incident. It is said that after an investigation, a team of assistant professors filed a report saying that ‘the two students were acting with the intention of ragging’.
Based on the report, University Registrar M Balakrishnan filed a complaint at the Trichy District Ramjinagar Police Station against 2 students who were involved in the incident of mixing urine in a soft drink.
Meanwhile, the 2 students accused in this incident were temporarily suspended from the college.
